Listen to their album Boxer. Give it a go while your driving or something. Took me a while, now I'm in love. The appeal to me is the lyrics especially. Problem is you're right, their so depressing. They make me feel like shit... and I love it.
Nephrak Says:
is it "then i'm radio.." or is it "venom radio..." i can't make up my mind.
Velourium Says:
The National is so good at music.
mojotheaverage Says:
that's cool dude. It's nice to actually see one of those rare occasions when two people who disagree on the internet can actually come to an amicable and mature conclusion :D
MightyMartel Says:
Well, I'm kind of an asshole so yeah, I come off that way lol. I honestly meant I was disappointed because I haven't found a song by them that I REALLY like enough. Other than that I think they sound way too depressing and I've listened to some introverted shit in my day. The reason I watched this video is because I read Sufjan did back up vocals. Makes sense, right? Maybe one day I'll see what the fuss is about. I haven't completely disregarded this band I just haven't heard anything I like.
mojotheaverage Says:
Also, your comment did say 'the national disappoints me again' so why watch a video by a band you know you don't like, that was the question I was asking.
mojotheaverage Says:
Aight then I get you now, but you did come off as somewhat fact stating in your comment dude and if you read it back, surely you can see why how people could have mistaken it as a little insulting?
tuwapatrick Says:
Is it Sufjan Stevens on the left?
MightyMartel Says:
I have to hear something before I can determine if I like it or not. How bout this? If you don't like my comment don't read it... See what I did there? I never said his voice was specifically monotone I just meant overall the song is and I never said monotone is bad but in this case it is... to ME, not you. So why do you care? I wasn't blatantly insulting the music or people who listen to it. People aren't always going to see eye to eye. Deal with it.
mojotheaverage Says:
Then don't listen. If you actually knew about vocals you'd know that he isn't actually monotone and would also appreciate the level of barely contained raw emotion that Matt harbours. I get that you said 'if you like it tho... right on' but you can't say something like that after stating something is naff just to cover your ass.
MightyMartel Says:
So monotone. I feel no life coming from this. If you like it tho... right on I'm just really bored. The National disappoints me again.

so many awesome things about this video, but can i just add that i love the way matt dances to the beat at @2:10
MuppetsFan1 Says:
At 3:06, you can tell every member of the band is feeling the exact same beat. Like a freight train that can't be stopped.
TheDiggityDNG Says:
Love 1:28. Sounds like he's trying to get a chainsaw started.
