The shelf life issue is irrelevant for a 5-year storage cycle. Anything sold by major distributors is new production. Don't buy caps for this application from surplus sellers - stick to newark/digikey/mouser. Further, I recommend spending a tiny bit more money on Low ESR capacitors for the 3300uf part. This part takes alot of ripple current.A tiny bit more money ($1.00 ea versus 30 cents) gets you a better part. I like the Panasonic HE series for 3300uF

I would like to know if these capacitors have a similar shelf life as a battery does? What is the shelf life of a capacitor? I'm asking this because I wouldn't want to purchase a supply of them if they eventually go bad without having ever been used. Thank you....bluenorthernski@yahoo.com

Im currently on mouser.com and the information is very valuble. My only problem is that for the ordering of the capacitor, its asking me for tolerance pF level. Can you tell me what the tolerance level is because the website is very specific. Thanxxx!

my tv the light turn on and off but the screen won't turn on
kimamofa Says:
i have the same problem and today i changed 3 capacitors, but the tv still off, what else do you think can be the problem. i was 3 capacitor bad.
Boatdog357 Says:
the board you in questioned in your video is a y sustain board or ysus but on other note buy the best quality high temp capacitors I would pay more for better capacitors than something that will short out my boards down the line of use.

Im on the mouser website and i found the 1000 uf 10v capaictors but there's still a lot of options to choose from like high temp, general purpose, low impedance, which one do i pick?

Um I know but they have very detailed stuff on site...

Thanks for this tutorial. I followed your advise and my television works perfectly. i took it apart and had a buddy from work do the soldering. i bought him a $10 lunch and i bought the capacitors from allied electronics. they were a little cheaper than mouser. it cost me $25.00 total to get my tv back to working.
boodollar Says:
thank you for listing the capacitors sizes and voltage. when i go to Mouser, they ask for temp range too. can you give me that info? i have the same model tv with the exact same capacitors bulging

i have a 42'' vizio that just recently went out...has sound..but no picture...what could it be?

You're gonna have to buy a desoldering iron along with a soldering iron. Every capacitor has two leads, one is positive and one is negative. You put them in the same way they come out, if you mess up then you'll have even more problems on your hands. But you use your desoldering iron to remove the solder from the back of the board (the solder trace side) Soldering is easy, but I would recommend practicing on some old junk circuit boards first. (an old clock, radio or something)
