Eddie was actually way more influenced by Clapton and Page than Hendrix. Hell, I don't even like Eddie Van Halen, but you can't deny the facts.
Page composed masterpieces in my opinion. He was way more diverse of a player than any other famous guitarist.

I think the music, melody and improvisation of steve vai and joe satriani (neither of which I am a particularly big fan of) actually do go beyond Page and hendrix, they write some very musically complex things. Not trying to put down what you're saying but they are a little outdated - I am a huge fan of both though.
