Great info, Dom, thank you. One question; is Auto high speed FP the setting I need to use for indoor high speed photography, for instance, I'd like to capture photos of water droplets/splashes etc? I'm about to buy my first flash (managed to scrape together the cash for a SB900) to use with a Nikon D700.

Hi, my Nikon 600 SB is clicking 3 times before the actual shutter goes off... causing a huge delay. Any reason for this? Is it on a weird setting? Any information will help, thanks!

auto fp will have no effect on how blurry you have your background that is due to your aperture. FP means you can use a faster shutterspeed and if you can increase that to a point where you have to use a big aperture then you will get some more soft background but your flash power gets sucked down when you go into auto fp
