The lining up for straight shots is more like for rule of thirds... Such as hot spots on a picture, leveling the eyes in perticular spots enhances the picture:D

Another thing you should do is switch off the 3 second preview after each shot is taken - this speeds things up quite a bit. ALSO try the ADVANCED setting and set it at 'Multi motion capture' its a good one to try and dont forget to set 'High speed shooting' to ON!

One way to get round this is to record in Video (1080i) then chop the pix up with something like VLC media player or Picasa3

Hi I have had this camera for a couple of months and brought i primarily to take photos of my daughter at her gymnastics comps howver when I try to shot continuous or on burst it only takes a few pics and then takes forever to save. By the time it finishes saving I have missed most of the routine. I got a new card a 16m class 10 but no changes. Do I need to change some settings or am I just on the wrng setting to start with?

I would try a class 6 or 10. Maybe see if you can borrow a friends to check it works. Transcend is a good brand. If in the UK - mymemory dot co dot uk

It will say on it class 2, 4, 6 or 10. The higher the number the faster the data speed.
