I preferred Vice City because of the Miami Vice allusions and 80's vibe, but in terms of sheer size and functionality I have to agree that San Andreas had a better design.
Never got GTA IV because of the excessive DRM and buggy reputation, but I heard it had a very good multiplayer mode. Still, GTA: San Andreas was probably the last game where you could ever expect something like "Hot Coffee" to be hidden on the disk. This game probably marks the peak of the computer game industry.

I can completely understand what you are saying with GTA San Andreas being amazing and all, but I don't understand why people then say GTA 4 sucked. I know it is much different from San Andreas, but GTA 4 improved on many things. The multiplayer is extremely addicting, especially hitting players with the propellers and watching them fly accross the map. I think people don't give GTA IV enough credit, and I think people like it, but just say it sucks which deep down they no it doesn't.

Scratch that. You could play pool in the bars in San Andreas. Couldn't have said it much better, though. I used to love buying clothes, working out, learning new fighting styles, customizing cars, and all that fun stuff. I thought GTA IV was just plain boring. Not even the main missions were that good.

While I can't decide if either this game or Vice City had the better soundtrack, this is by far my favorite game in the series. It's a parody of California in the early 90's, and I lived in California in the early 90's. It's like watching South Park when I lived in Colorado, it adds an extra flavor to the humor.
