]]> Paraglider. Video camera mounted in the canopy test. A very quick edit of my first clip testing my prototype canopy camera mount. Details of construction and photographs of the mount are on pg forum www.paraglidingforum.com . Basically it's two pieces of polystyrene foam with cut-outs to take the shape of the camera. It's then fitted into an old pop bottle to give some rigidity. Wrapped with a couple of rubbers bands. The whole thing is stuck on a piece of foam to stop it flopping about sideways. Plus there is a tailfin made from model aircraft plastic which also gives directional stability. I got the idea of the latter from this U Tube video describing the making of a similar canopy mount ... www.youtube.com The mount is secured by 4 small alloy caribiners connected by light lines between b's and c's, and is fixed to line loops on the canopy near the centre of the wing. Camera is Sanyo Xacti C40. Location is Freathy, a South Devon club site near Plymouth, UK. Conditions were pretty light and I had to scratch in quite low to top land! I have slipped in an old clip which shows a better view of the site. If I'd have had more height the cheapo e bay wide angle lense on my Xacti would have given a better open view of the coast, or even one or two gliders passing below me. Next time!

We fly from the midway area to get some closer views of the barns and wind turbine. At about 600 feet Bob's prop spins off and takes his canopy with it- now he is tail heavy and flying a real sailplane ! he Said he could barely get it down- full down elevator barely made it nose down- it was windy and all it wanted to do was climb. Prop and canopy fell in locked race track between turn 1 and 2- got them back next day from a friendly track worker...

]]> GoPro RC Accident. Camera fell together with the canopy during flight My GoPro camera attached to the canopy was to heavy that it unlocked from the plane and fell down. Since I installed lead weights to the tail of the plane in order balance the camera weight, the plane lost its equilibrium once the canopy was off and went very unstable. I crashed it but is still in one piece with minor damages.

He talks us through one of his near death canopy malfunctions and his experience as an exhibition skydiver. Featuring POV footage of one of John's canopy malfunctions, filmed by John himself at Swansea Airport with his helmet mounted camera, and footage of the largest helicopter in the world, the Mil 26. ]]> Geoff's AFF Malfunction (Reserve instructor camera) This was at Aerohio, on July 3, 2011 This is the camera angle from my reserve-side instructor's helmet. I have the actual DVD from the DZ posted, too. This gives a little better insight as to what was going on up there. My main canopy had a baglock malfunction @ a little under 5000 feet. I waited longer than the 3-count to break away. My reserve instructor tried to shake the main lines to release the chute, but it didn't do the trick, so he popped my reserve handle. The reserve deployment actually released the baglock, so I had 2 chutes out. The lines were twisted, and as they untwisted, the two canopies formed a downplane (one canopy on either side of my body, flying straight down) At about 2200 feet, I cut away the main and flew the reserve to a surprisingly smooth landing, just off the runway, going with the wind, instead of into it. all in all, AWESOME jump!!
